Brief noteSMS ( Short Message Service) — is the system which allows to send and receive text messages with the help of cell phone. At the moment this technology is the most widespread as it’s cheap and simple in usage. Annually the number of short messages is calculated by hundreds of millions and constantly rises. Message lengthText can contain numerical-alphabetical symbols. The maximum size of message in GSM standard is 140 bytes. So while using 7-bit coding (Latin alphabet and digits) You can send messages with the length up to 160 symbols. For national alphabet support (Ukrainian, Russian, Chinese and others) 2-byte UTF-16 coding is used (see Unicode). So, SMS written in Cyrillic can’t exceed 70 symbols.
